Medical Leave Policies

Not even the smallest company is immune to the common occurrence of medical situations that require leave from work. Simply knowing what regulations must be in place for your particular business is complicated.

Three levels of medical leave policies exist:

  1. federal requirements
  2. state requirements
  3. corporate policies as stated in the personnel manual

These include, but aren’t limited to, ADA, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, workers compensation, medical leave, pregnancy disability leave, kin care, and state disability insurance.

The absence of appropriate documented policies significantly increases your exposure to litigation and the probability of complications when medical leave issues arise. The controlling regulations that cover required documentation change frequently.
